Thermal Detection
Using ‘hot-spot’ and ‘scene temperature deviation’ in thermal cameras to trigger alarms.
Our VMS solutions can use the ‘hot-spot’ and ‘scene temperature deviation’ features of thermal cameras to trigger real time alarms. The hot-spot feature is where one or more peaks of temperature are detected within the camera scene, which exceed a designated level, such as person whose body temperature is above 38.0°C and has a fever. It can also be used as a fire prevention system, warning if equipment is overheating. Scene temperature deviation is used to manage the ambient temperature of buildings, such as a cold storage warehouse, which must operate within a specific, low temperature range to keep frozen food safe.

Alarm Response
An alert from the thermal camera is transmitted to the VMS as either an HTTP message or physical alarm output. This presents the alarm within the VMS as a window with video, with an option to adjust frame rate and resolution settings for optimal recording of the alarm. The video starts at the point of the alarm and can include any specific instructions that the operator or key-holder should follow. In larger systems, with many users, specific alarms can be designated to specific users to handle.
The video associated with the alarm is ‘bookmarked’ for easy retrieval. Multiple, related cameras can be included within the alarm activation window for comprehensive event coverage. An extensive list of actions can be triggered, following an alarm. Some common examples include:
- Ensuring the designated operator or user acknowledges and responds to the alarm - a feature most commonly used by full-time, CCTV operators in central monitoring applications.
- Alarm event video being stored for longer than the designated storage time of the CCTV system, within GDPR guidelines. Only users with the correct authority within a user hierarchy, may unlock and delete this video. These typically include designated key-holders, operators or the police.
- Automated triggering of HTTP messaging to third-party systems for integration.
- Sending SMS messages and emails to users with up to five images of the alarm event and a link to view the associated alarm video. This is an efficient method to restrict bandwidth usage.
- Calling one or more PTZ cameras to a pre-set or tour.
